This position responsible for implementing marketing and communications plans and tactics in support of R-CISC’s brand management, public relations, conference and event promotion, publications and social media initiatives. The marketing communications manager will be a key player in raising the public profile of the R-CISC, its work and its staff, using a variety of media tactics and channels.
This is a full-time staff position, reporting to the vice president of marketing and communications. A primary focus will be social media, website content, writing and editing that includes frequent email and digital promotions, newsletters, white papers, print and other collateral materials, press releases and blog(s) in support of R-CISC’s share of voice. In addition, you will assist the Membership and Operations and Intelligence teams as needed. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years direct experience, proven ability to work remotely—with a dedicated space for remote work at home—reliable internet connectivity, and ability to work from our corporate office in Washington D.C. at least one day per week. Some travel is expected in the U.S. and Canada.
The primary responsibilities of the marketing communications manager are:
Media and External Relations
Creating meaningful and mission-focused content for media; as well as collateral and communications, including e-newsletters, social media, media advisories and releases, event collateral, blogs, talking points and speeches, as well as meeting briefs, letters, follow-up correspondence, project updates, mass mailings, and acknowledgments
Managing outreach campaigns, both generally and in rapid response situations, around R-CISC’s positions, initiatives and events
Responding to media inquiries
Managing and building key media and outreach lists; segmenting for each project’s needs; including work with PR agency to maintain a current media tracking database, and managing Salesforce and other lists
Assist with development of key messaging; write, edit and manage production of promotional and program materials to adhere to brand and messaging, and support R-CISC initiatives and programs
Support ongoing market research and data analysis initiatives, track/report marketing program effectiveness
Ensure the proper branding of the organization with partners
Developing outreach plans and maintaining editorial calendar for R-CISC initiatives and programs, papers, events and other content, and coordinating press efforts with R-CISC teams
Collaborating on R-CISC’s broad editorial strategy, including outreach related to mission, writing synopses of events and other original content, as well as supporting R-CISC staff members in their efforts to become more widely published
Liaising with R-CISC’s communications, events and production partners, and internal teams to ensure coordinated communications strategies and promoting information-sharing for improved internal communications
Owning the timeline and production of collateral and other outputs from R-CISC, including papers, infographics, data visualizations and other deliverables
Working closely with other managers, directors and teams to understand various communication needs, executing communications plans that fulfill those needs
Creating and maintaining reports that monitor progress against marketing communications goals and upcoming deadlines
Creating original—and repurposing content—for R-CISC’s social media (Twitter, LinkedIn), and researching new channels or platforms for possible engagement
Monitoring/responding to communications via social media, posting events or significant developments, and integrating social media into the communications plan and roll outs
Day-to-day managing, updating and administering the R-CISC website; editing, proofreading, posting content; instituting standards around tagging and organization of website
Training staff on website/social communications as needed

Demonstrate desire to learn, grow, support and ensure that the marketing communications function continues to add great value to the organization
Regularly seek to understand all aspects of our work to convey externally
Minimum of 2 years relevant professional work experience preferably in nonprofit trade and professional associations; some experience managing distinct marketing or communications projects preferred;
Solid foundation and knowledge of marketing tools and new media, as well as email campaign management, segmentation and retargeting experience
Excellent writing, proofreading skills, and demonstrated editorial skills, including press releases, media campaigns, website content and white papers
Proven ability to work remotely and independently and with little oversight
Sound judgment, decision-making skills and discretion, particularly when dealing with media
Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and management of production and deadlines to meet critical initiatives with exceptional attention to detail
Preference will be given to candidates who can show:
Adaptability, solution-orientation, tech-savvy and DIY-orientation
Knowledge of graphic design software such as Photoshop
Experience succeeding in a complex, multi-focus, team-based atmosphere, and playing the role of brand ambassador, confidently and cheerfully engaging with members of a community
