Metropolitan State University, Minnesota's public, urban university, is seeking applicants for the position of Vice President of Marketing, Communication and Recruitment. This is a full-time position reporting directly to the President. This position is responsible for providing vision, creativity and leadership for the university-wide integrated marketing and communication function, including brand strategy, marketing, media relations, internal and external communications, crisis communication and policies and procedures needed to assure appropriate action. In addition, this talented professional will provide oversight for the recruitment and admission of students. Responsibilities include leadership and oversight of the marketing and creative side of the Creative Technologies team and the Admissions department. The Vice President is committed to fostering equity and inclusion for students, faculty and staff. S/he both advises the President about and represents the President's goals and strategies regarding the institution's marketing, communication and student recruitment policies, practices and activities. The Vice President is a member of the President's Executive Cabinet and the President's Cabinet. As a member of these groups the VP-MCR contributes business acumen, entrepreneurial insight and planning expertise to the University's executive leadership team.

Work closely and collaboratively with the President, the President's Executive Cabinet, and units and offices across the University, to develop and implement an integrated, proactive, comprehensive, and consistent marketing and communication strategy and plan that enhances the brand, influence, reputation, and achievement of goals and aspirations of the university.
Remain abreast of industry trends and best practices and integrate knowledge into strategic plans, operations and training
Lead development, implementation and evaluation of the annual marketing plan.
Develop and manage policies to assure adherence to brand standards, consistency of communications and effectiveness of marketing plans and tactics.
Manage university-wide marketing and communication activities, especially media relations; digital communication and social media; advertising placements, including print, digital, broadcast, and other formats that will ensure a cost-effective strategy to reach prospective students, donors and other targeted constituencies to authentically convey and reflect the attributes of the university as a highly diverse, inclusive and equitable, public, urban, minority-serving institution.
Work with the Director of Admissions, the Associate Provost of Student Success and the Strategic Enrollment Management Council to develop a comprehensive strategic enrollment management plan that will position the University to achieve its goals.
Lead, supervise, and direct the Admissions teams and the employees who make up the creative side of the Creative Technologies team, including student workers, consultants and contract personnel to provide services necessary to fulfill responsibilities.
Create a culture of accountability through evidence-based decision making, outcomes assessment, and process improvement where individual and team progress, deadlines, and results are reported and evaluated with regularity.
Lead crisis and issues management communication, planning to deal with critical events as they arise. Provide strategic counsel on reputation and issues management to the president and other senior leaders. Work with the special assistant to the president on the president's communications.
Lead media relations outreach and oversee the university's media relations strategy. Foster effective and collaborative relationships with members of the media Articulate the value proposition of the university and effectively promote stories of Metropolitan State to its internal and external audiences
Develop and enhance relationships with the Deans of the Colleges and Schools, the Dean of Students and the Associate Provost for Student Success to assure that the marketing and communication strategies and tactics are adapted to the needs of individual programs and that underlying brand strategies are consistently deployed.
Directly participates in institutional planning and decision making as a member of the President's Executive Cabinet and Cabinet.
Demonstrates commitment and contribution to the creation and maintenance of a diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace that promotes employee engagement and performance.

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field from an accredited college or university.
At least ten years of progressively higher levels of leadership and supervision in the fields of marketing, communications and public relations.
Demonstrated record of accomplishment in working within a diverse environment and promoting equity and inclusion in the workplace or for students or in the community.
Demonstrated superior professional skills in oral and written communication.
Demonstrated collaboration skills evidenced by working across organizational boundaries, with peers and direct reports to complete projects.
Higher education experience.
Leadership at the executive director, director or vice presidential level.
Knowledge of and experience with student recruitment.
Successful track record of developing and implementing multi-faceted and integrated marketing and communication strategies in a complex and changing environment.
Advanced knowledge of the strategies and best practices for communication, including proven success at developing and implementing online and social media strategies to enhance visibility of the University, as well as engagement with and loyalty to the University.
Demonstrated understanding of market research, data interpretation and use of analytics to make marketing decisions.
Proven track record of effective media relations and demonstrated ability to efficiently develop media relations strategies
Experience with development and implementation of crisis communications plans to quickly respond to changing circumstances.
Budget experience that demonstrates creativity in maximizing the impact of limited resources.
Demonstrated record of accomplishment in promoting diversity, inclusion and equity in the workplace and/or community
Experience in a collective bargaining environment.
Proven record of leading with integrity, acting with discretion and maintaining confidentiality.
Demonstrated strength in organizational and planning skills
Demonstrated commitment to ethical, collaborative, consultative, and team-oriented leadership.

Salary: This Administrator positon is assigned to a Range 8, as outlined in the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Personnel Plan for Administrators (see link below), and is commensurate with education and experience.
