As the School of Computing and Information (SCI) enters its third year, it seeks an Executive Director of Marketing and Communications to develop and implement its marketing and communications strategy.
The Executive Director must be a visionary leader who will play a critical role in building a world-class marketing and communications operation that will promote the mission of the SCI and the momacs Institute.
We seek an experienced, highly capable team leader who has strategic vision, tactical good sense and operational hands-on skills. The Executive Director must be able to implement months-long campaigns, weeks-long special projects, and daily articles, updates, and tweets. Some of this work will be delegated, but the Executive Director is expected to be hands-on and work alongside team members.
Writing and editing skills are important because the Executive Director is responsible for all SCI communications. Design sense, avoiding banality, understanding what SCI has to tell the world, and telling it effectively, in appropriate media, are paramount skills.
The Executive Director will report to the Dean of SCI and will work closely with the University Office of Communications, with other central Pitt functions, and with SCI's department chairs and staff leads. As a strategic advisor, the Executive Director is a key member of the senior leadership team and will serve as the primary communications and marketing resource for the Dean.
The Executive Director will ensure timely delivery of material on an annual cycle, such as back-to-school articles, announcements of new programs and courses, Homecoming material, etc. The Executive Director will be aware of and prepared for institutional advancement opportunities, Board of Visitors meetings, corporate events, etc. The Executive Director of Marketing and Communication will have excellent interpersonal communication skills, a commitment to provide service, and be responsive to requests and articulated needs.
The Executive Director will have the ability to develop positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, visitors and outside organizations to advance SCI's communications.
